The health experts say that the amount of sea food should be restricted as they may contain dangerous pollutants which maybe harmful to the child. On the contrary, research has shown that mothers who ate fish during their pregnancy had children with sharp mental and social skills. The U.S guidelines limit expectant mothers to 340 gms of sea food a week. However the study published in The Lancet says when these mothers ate more than the set limits had children with better motor, communication and social skills.

The children were 48 percent more likely to have a relatively low verbal IQ score at age 8 and 44 per cent more likely to have poor social behavior at the age of seven compared to children whose mothers ate the higher amount of seafood.

What do you do if you don’t like fish or if you are a vegetarian? Taking omega-3 supplements should give you the same results.

I wish I could have told my mom to eat fish when she was expecting me.....
