It has been postulated that breast-feeding mothers are prone to the deficiency of vitamin D and if this insufficiency is not meted out then the offspring might suffer because of vitamin D deficiency disorders. When a research was conduct on 40 healthy women, it found out that 20 among them were deficient in vitamin D. Among their children who were, being breast-fed, twenty-six were found to be lacking in vitamin D. The mothers reported this deficiency despite a regular intake of multivitamins. How can you obtain vitamin D? 1. The most easily available and affordable source of vitamin D is sunshine. 2. Infants can acquire it from omega fatty acids and fish liver oil. Vitamin D is very much important for healthy bones. Insufficiency of this vitamin may lead to rickets in the long run.
