Vitamin D deficiency during pregnancy

Vitamin D deficiency cannot be averted by the daily intake of prenatal multivitamin supplements. Recent study postulates that health complications, including rickets and vitamin D insufficiency, is a prevalent phenomenon in pregnancy and is especially common to women residing in the northern latitudes. Vitamin D deficiency early in life is associated with rickets plus increased risk for type 1 diabetes, asthma and schizophrenia.
