The director of the Midlands Fertility Services clinic in Birmingham, Dr Gillian Lockwood has suggested that single women should ‘freeze’ their eggs before they realize that their best years for childrearing have gone. However, the critics have altogether different view. They say that women should be encouraged to have children young. Since, the technique of storing women’s eggs was used for the women undergoing cancer treatment, which was possible at the risk of their fertility. Nevertheless, presently more and more women are opting for it as most of them are working towards financial stability. Dr. Lockwood said that even though the women in their late 30s and early 40s may feel young but they must keep in mind that their reproductive potential may not stand on the same altar. In U.K, the success rate stands at around 10% and the technique has resulted in just four live births.
