Drinking, smoking and doing illicit drugs are major taboos for a woman during pregnancy. However, excluding these there are certain things, which a pregnant woman should keep in mind. They are: 1. Seafood- although fish is a great source of protein but at times they may also carry some amount of mercury which can harm the developing brain of fetus. In addition to it, they may contain parasite such as tapeworm, which can rob your baby of vital nutrients. Thus, pregnant women can have small amounts of seafood including salmon, canned light tuna, catfish, cod and cooked shrimp, crab etcetera. 2. Pets- pregnant women should avoid pets as it may put them at risk for an infection called toxoplasmosis. Babies born infected of the disease through mother can develop blindness or brain damage. 3. Chemicals- they are present in some cleaning solutions and can prove harmful to your baby. Avoid using them if not possible then protect yourself with mask and gloves and make sure the room you’re working in is well- ventilated. 4. Hot- tubs- though your aching body may crave a hot bath, steam room or sauna, stay away from the heat. High temperatures can harm your fetus or cause you to faint. 5. X rays- since they are radiations so must be avoided during pregnancy. 6. Some herbal remedies- many nutritional supplements and herbs have proven to be safe and effective for use during pregnancy. For example, ginger root and vitamin B6 have been found useful in treating "morning sickness," the nausea associated with early pregnancy.
