Women’s Minister Shahrizat Abdul Jalil was cited as saying that the rising number of unmarried mothers who took hormone supplements in order to breastfeed their adopted children could signal a woman’s independence from the need to wed and bear biological children. It seems that the institution of marriage in the nation would be in danger if the trend continues. Mastura Badzis, vice president of the Malaysian Islamic Youth Movement stated, ‘their intentions might be good, but Islam encourages marriages and a woman will benefit much if she gets to serve her husband. A woman needs a man, and children need a mother and father. If one of these are missing, then there’s a chance that the family would be disrupted.’
