Women who were underweight when they were born are at greater risk of pre-eclampsia during pregnancy. Pre-eclampsia is a common condition that causes high blood pressure and can put the mother’s life at risk. The result is based on a study of more than 6,000 women under the age of 30 years. The findings also gave a view that if their mothers too had pre-eclampsia, the risk was expected to be doubled. Thus, supporting the previous studies according to which pre-eclampsia run in families. Low birth weight is also believed to be related to other conditions associated with high blood pressure, such as heart disease.
