A recent study has revealed a strange fact about figures of pre-term births. The study showed that number of pre-mature babies is three time higher among African-American women when compared to their white counter parts. The conclusion that African women frequently delivered prematurely was reached after assessing more than 70,000 births. Apart from that, the study also showed that the risk for recurrent premature delivery (a marked phenomenon once you have a preterm birth), is comparatively highr among the African-American women. According to the authors of the study the reason that goes behnd this phenomenon is: The diseases afflicting the black race, particularly sickle cell disease, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency, and nitrous oxide synthase polymorphisms and their effects on the incidence of malaria. Though there are no concrete reasons known as yet, but still these can be the prospective ones.
