According to the International Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the consumption of fruits and veggies during pregnancy reduces the risk of miscarriages. Dr. Maureen Maconochie from the London School of Hygiene studied thousands of pregnant women and concluded that those who took fruits and veggies during pregnancy were 46% less likely to have miscarriages in relation to those who took less of these. Products like chocolates, vitamin tablets, dairy products, fish and white meat were also linked with a reduced risk of miscarriage. However, underweight pregnant women are 70% higher risk of having a miscarriage. In addition to these, women who are associated with stress job, separation, divorce and illness are more susceptible to miscarriages. Thus, the only and easy way to overcome these kinds of problems would be just to have a healthy intake of fruits and veggies.
Who doesn’t want bright children? Eat fish and save all the money you will be spending on your children polishing their mental and social skills. The health experts say that the amount of sea food should be restricted as they may contain dangerous pollutants which maybe harmful to the child. On the contrary, research has shown that mothers who ate fish during their pregnancy had children with sharp mental and social skills. The U.S guidelines limit expectant mothers to 340 gms of sea food a week. However the study published in The Lancet says when these mothers ate more than the set limits had children with better motor, communication and social skills. The children were 48 percent more likely to have a relatively low verbal IQ score at age 8 and 44 per cent more likely to have poor social behavior at the age of seven compared to children whose mothers ate the higher amount of seafood. What do you do if you don’t like fish or if you are a vegetarian? Taking omega-3 supplements should give you the same results. I wish I could have told my mom to eat fish when she was expecting me…..
An allergy developed by child is directly proportional to what her/his mother consumed during pregnancy. The findings are based on survey, which studied the associations between maternal diet during the last 4 weeks of pregnancy and allergies in progeny at age 2 years. The information of 2641 kids was put into consideration. It postulated that 17.7% of children developed eczema, 9.3% were sensitized to food allergens, most commonly milk and eggs, and 4.8% were sensitized to inhaled allergens. The finding also revealed that consuming fish during pregnancy safeguarded infants against eczema. In spite of these noticeable associations, the scholars asserted, before any recommendations can be made, randomized clinical intervention trials should be performed to confirm the cause-effect relation observed in the present study. But I think, mother’s diet does affect in developing allergies or some kind of health complications in infants.
Time and again people have stressed the importance of following a healthy, balanced diet, packed with a wide variety of nutritional foods during pregnancy. What the expectant mother consumes may have a bearing on her child’s health. A recent study presented at the American Thoracic Society’s 2007 International Conference in San Francisco has brought to the forefront the health benefits of eating fish and apples during pregnancy on the child’s well-being. Expectant mothers by way of including apples and fish in their diet could reduce the risk of their children developing allergies and asthma. Scottish and Dutch researchers established these results following a research on 1200 children. Monitoring the women when they were 32 weeks into their pregnancy and thereafter the children till they were 5 years of age, the researchers concluded that these children were least likely to exhibit symptoms of asthma or suffer from the skin infection, eczema. The researchers did not delve into the exact constituents present in apples and fish that contributed to the health of the children but reported that when weighed against the various risk factors for asthma and allergies, apples and fish proved their merits in plummeting the possibility of children having to put up with asthma and allergies during their growing years. A little thoughtfulness on the part of the expectant mother to include apples and fish in her diet might just make a positive difference to her child’s health. Image: Zeenews Source: Webmd
